The following is from Cindi Wight, Rutland Recreation & Parks Department
Greetings Pine Hill enthusiast,
If you read the paper today you would have seen that Michael Smith is a finalist in the Red Cross Hometown Heroes for his work in Pine Hill Park. Congratulations Michael!! We all appreciate the work that Michael has done in the park.
Keith Wight continues to work on the signs. We are in a holding pattern now as we wait for Gagnon Lumber to mill more hemlock. Keith has 19 signs up in the park to date. Mary Ellen Shaw has agreed to paint the letters/numbers in the signs to help turn out more signs when the lumber is ready. Thank you Mary Ellen! Thank you also to Gagnon Lumber for donating the wood.
Winter is a beautiful time to be in the park. It is always fascinating to notice the rock outcrops in the woods that are not visible when the leaves are all out. It is also a nice chance to be in the woods without bugs!
If you are planning your summer, don't forget that the Summer Sunset Running Series is on the second Tuesday of June, July and August in Pine Hill Park. We set a 5K and 1K course. If there is interest we could set a 3K course. The race series is all about fun and setting a personal best time over the three months. If you participate in all three races you get a super five color t-shirt designed by Michael Smith. You can walk or run in the series. The cost last year was $12 for all three races and will be a similar price this year.
Go out and enjoy the park!
Cindi
